The Law of Detachment is Real
Have you ever noticed that the harder you try to bring your desire into reality, the further away it seems to move? The rational, analytical mind has an issue letting go. It cannot fathom how you might get your desire by leaving it alone so it clings on for dear life. This is where we become attached to an outcome that has no chance of showing to us. Reality needs the freedom to lead us where it sees fit in order for us to experience our desires. It’s vital that we sit back and let it work for us. Whilst we keep control, the stranglehold suffocates it and keeps us in a state of lack.
Detachment is more about letting things be than letting them go. Instead of telling ourselves we must let go, let’s say ‘Let it be.’ – That’s us letting reality be what it is right now in the knowledge that we don’t need to do anything. Our job was done with clarity of intent. Maybe take a moment to listen to Let it Be by the Beatles. This is a beautiful way of reminding ourselves that all we have to do is release our grip.
What If We Never Let Go?
Start with the intent. I Want to let things be. An intent is enough. If you really want to move into detachment you will. We might have a real fear of letting things be. On one hand we know that an element of detachment is key and on the other, we fear it because maybe it means that the universe will conclude we don’t actually want it after all. But this is the rational mind at work again. When you feel the fear, ask yourself when it’s ever helped you achieve your dreams. Once you can clearly see the contradiction it becomes more apparent that leaving things alone is the only option left.
What is to be gained by ruminating or trying to find a solution outside of you? You’ll have tried this already. There is little point in doing the same things whilst wanting a different outcome. If we do the same, we’ll get the same result. If a mechanic keeps pulling an engine apart and putting it back together with one part in the wrong place, he will not be able to start the car. It won’t suddenly start up. It can’t. Same goes for reality. The laws of physics are the laws of physics.
