A Book About Learning to Love Yourself

For the Love of ME

My latest book has just been published, so I thought I’d give you a little exert from it 🙂

You may be thinking that your past feeling state is insurmountable. You may have suffered childhood trauma that has left you feeling worthless or unlovable. You may think ‘Well this stuff is all very well but it doesn’t address the bigger issues’ Dealing with trauma is the first step. Working through it with a therapist that you trust and feel comfortable with.

Loving yourself is the best thing that you can learn to do. It might seem impossible now, but it will start to feel possible. All you need to start is a desire to change the way that you feel about yourself. The rest will come.

I like to use the fifty percent rule. ‘I intend to feel 50% better about myself than I do today’ By using this statement, both your analytical brain and your subconscious mind will have a greater acceptance of it. You are not trying to get from A to Z in one shot. You are doing it in bite sized pieces, and it will feel gentler. If fifty percent still seems too much, go down in percentages until it feels comfortable. It’s quite amazing how our body reacts to questions we ask ourselves. It’s an intuitive response and we should use it as often as we can.

Everything is in your perspective, your perception of it. You can perceive anything in any way. Often, it’s easier to choose the negative. We don’t realise that there is an option to change, but there always is.

Use my impulsive nature as a case in point. I saw it as negative mainly because others would comment on it as if it were. My husband will go into panic if he thinks I am about to do something I might regret. He airs on the side of caution in all areas of his life and there is nothing wrong with that, but I do wonder if he misses opportunities that may have served him well.

Too much consideration can lead to a rationalisation that it’s just not worth the risk, and maybe it isn’t, but then again, maybe it is…. I’d regularly hear the statement ‘You always rush in without thinking’ and I saw that as decidedly negative. Like this:  Why do I have to be so impulsive? 🙁

The better perspective: My impulsive nature means that I never miss an opportunity 🙂
